Gaza flotilla refuses to help Schalit

The Schalit family on Thursday asked for assistance from international left-wing activists due to arrive in the Gaza Strip later in the day.

If the left-wing activists pressure Hamas to allow international organizations to bring letters and food packages to Gilad Schalit, the kidnapped soldier’s family has agreed to support the international expedition’s attempt to dock, Army Radio reported Thursday.

Lawyer Nick Kaufman presented the offer to the organization “Free Gaza,” one of the organizers of the flotilla headed for Gaza, which promptly refused the offer.

In a nod to Hezbollah’s rivals, Nasrallah cited Israeli Holocaust museums to stress the importance of preserving history.

“Everywhere you go there is a Holocaust museum, regardless of (the Holocaust’s) authenticity, accuracy or magnitude,” he said.

What Do They Mean by “East Jerusalem”?

Ramat Shlomo, in the news because of Israel’s now-suspended plans to expand it, is one of several new neighborhoods in the historic Jewish capital. Though international elements speak glibly of “Arab east Jerusalem,” close to a quarter of a million Jews live in the parts of Jerusalem liberated by Israel during the Six Day War of 1967.

The pajama game in Shanghai

The Chinese adopted Western pajamas without fully understanding their context. Most of us had never had any dedicated sleepwear other than old T-shirts and pants. And we thought pajamas were a symbol of wealth and coolness. Shanghainese began wearing them to bed — but kept them on to walk around the neighbourhood, mainly out of convenience.

Bacon sandwich declared ultimate hangover cure

A night on the town can leave many people as impaired the next morning as they were the night before. Pounding headaches, nausea, weakness and slower brain functions are enough for anyone to feel like calling in sick.

But researchers in the U.K. have found a cure, or so they say. The miracle relief for the common hangover apparently comes in the form of a bacon sandwich.

The problem is Pakistan, not Afghanistan

Here we go again with Pakistan. This isn’t deja vu. No, it’s now a routine pattern in modern life: An Islamic fundamentalist trains in Pakistan and then flies to America or another Western state to wreak havoc.  Look back decades. Ramzi Yousef, the 1993 World Trade Center bomber, was born of Pakistani parents in Kuwait and trained in Pakistan for the attack.  Ramzi Binalshibh, the Yemeni suspected of coordinating the Sept. 11 attack, was arrested the next year in Pakistan. Several men involved in the London train bombings five years ago trained in Pakistan. So did Richard Reed, the shoe bomber.

Last year, FBI agents in New York charged Najibullah Zazi and his father with planning a terror attack in the United States after receiving extensive training in bombmaking and terrorist strategies in a Pakistani camp.

The litany of attempted and actual terror attacks offers at least half a dozen similar examples from Pakistan in recent years, and now comes the latest: Faisal Shahzad, the failed Times Square bomber, who trained in terror in his native country, Pakistan.

Peace Partner: “Go back to Europe & Ethiopia”

For the zillionth time:  there can never be peace with these bastards. The whole world could save a lot of time, money & energy by just giving up on the dream that this conflict is solvable – it’s not, it can only be managed.  Kind of like Herpes.

Clouds

Clouds are fascinating because they take on so many different, beautiful shapes and are constantly changing. Cloud-watching from Earth can be endlessly entertaining, but some of the most amazing cloud patterns can only be properly appreciated from space.

German police force replaces sniffer dog with VULTURE

Police sniffer dogs are facing fresh competition when it comes to tracking down dead bodies – from vultures.

Detectives in Germany hope one of the scavengers – called ‘Sherlock’ – could be the first of many to help with investigations.  They want to harness Sherlock’s incredible sense of smell to locate corpses in remote areas. A GPS tracking device is attached to his leg and off he goes.

A mosque to mock 9/11’s victims and families

The second attack on the World Trade Center is coming. It will stand 13 stories high, cost $100 million dollars and include a mosque. Known as Cordoba House — the name echoing an early caliphate that, of course, subjugated non-Muslims — it will be located two blocks away from where our magnificent towers crashed and burned, easy wafting distance for the Islamic call to prayer.

“Vodka eyeballing”

Even as drunken student antics go, it was, by any stretch of the imagination, a disturbing scene. Surrounded by cheering rugby players, applauded by fellow members of the university netball team, 19-year-old Melissa Fontaine tipped back her head and giggled as fellow drinkers in the Students’ Union bar pulled apart her eyelids and allowed them to pour a shot of vodka into her left eye.

Video: Jews from “Planet Chomsky”

Alan Dershowitz said Tuesday that Israel’s biggest problem are Israel-bashing Jews like Norman Finkelstein and Gilad Atzmon. He said some people live on what he calls “Planet Chomsky” — a reference to the Jewish ultra-leftist MIT professor who has met Hizbullah’s leader Nasrallah.

Dershowitz explained that Israel’s Arab enemies employ a “dead baby strategy.” They want to induce Israel to kill as many Arab babies as possible so that they can use the photos of the babies in their propaganda.  Click the image for the video.

Stop Qaddafi!

As the leader of the free world, and as a key new member of the UN Human Rights Council, the United States should lead an urgent campaign to stop the murderous Libyan regime of Col. Moammar Qaddafi from being elected to this influential 47-nation body. Electing Qaddafi would be only one more nail in the council’s rapidly diminishing credibility.

UN Watch asks we take action.

Afghanistan: “Honor rape” of boys and men

The Muslim world is full of violent, graphic and alarming stories of ‘honor killings’, in which young woman are killed by male family members for dishonoring the family. ‘Honor rape’, in which the gang rape of a woman is used as a tool of social punishment, is spoken of less.

Almost unheard of is an ‘honor killing’ or ‘honor rape’ of a man. But the northern Afghanistan province of Jowzjan is grappling with just that

A Checkpoint Checkup

It might seem that a recent AP article, Checkpoint misery epitomizes a Mideast divide, examining the major Qalandia checkpoint between the northern West Bank and Jerusalem, is just more of the same, especially since the term “daily humiliation” makes its usual appearance.

But to gauge just how humiliating the transit is, Ben Hubbard, the AP reporter, spent a week at the terminal interviewing Palestinians, and timing their passage through the checkpoint. And even though it’s almost certainly unintentional, Hubbard’s report casts doubt on just how much misery and waiting Palestinians must endure at these checkpoints.

A Movement of Hate, Pt. I

There are several forms of pro-Palestinianism which can be categorised in terms of extremism. Moderates think the Palestinians are largely the victims in this conflict and do not advocate terrorism at all and may even support a fairly just two-state solution. The second group support the Palestinian cause without endorsing the more extreme acts of Palestinian terrorism but nonetheless tend to find them “understandable” and may demand solutions that nullify Israel’s Jewish identity, e.g. the “right to return.” The most extreme group supports all acts of Palestinian terrorism no matter how debased or destructive to Israeli civilians. By implication they support a one-state solution – namely, a Palestinian state or a greater Jordan/Syria.

In Jordan, school violence begins at home

Teachers say without violence they cannot gain respect of students who are physically abused at home.

Throughout Jordan, violence is still seen as an acceptable form of discipline for children. A U.N.-sponsored report published in 2007 found that the amount of violence inflicted on children in school did not differ dramatically from what kids experience at home. At school, 57 percent of children were physically abused, while 71 percent were verbally abused. At home, 53 percent experienced at least “mild physical abuse” and 70 percent received verbal abuse.

Additionally, at least 70 percent of parents supported teachers hitting students if they misbehave, don’t do their work, or get bad grades.

Canadian on welfare linked to terrorists: RCMP

A Montreal man has collected Quebec government welfare cheques for almost 20 years, even as he criss-crossed Europe to meet six other men who’ve since been either killed, convicted or linked to global terrorism, lawyers for the RCMP and CSIS allege.

In recently filed court documents, government lawyers claim that while Mohamed Omary has been jobless and on the dole in Montreal since he arrived from Morocco. Yet he still somehow found cash to repeatedly visit Europe between 1993 and 1999.

The New Nazis

Smiling proudly as she wraps her arms around her two children, Cynthia Keene’s family paint a happy picture. But as they roll up their sleeves to reveal dozens of swastika tattoos it’s clear there is nothing average about their lifestyle. Because the Keenes are just one of a growing number of Nazi families who have joined the racist group, the NSM (National Socialist Movement).
