Pakistan Again Supporting Terrorists

While Americans were preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving, President Trump was engaged in a dialogue with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan that was anything but celebratory. Afterward, Trump declared that Pakistan has “done nothing for the United States” despite receiving some $20 billion in U.S. assistance since 9/11.

Khan pushed back, using his American counterpart’s familiar defiant tone as well as Trump’s favorite mode of communication. “Trump’s false assertions add insult to the injury Pakistan has suffered in the US war on terror in terms of lives lost and economic costs,” Khan tweeted. “He needs to be informed about historical facts. Pakistan has suffered enough fighting [America’s] war. Now we will do what is best for our people and our interests.”

In this exchange, the facts are on Trump’s side.

Video: New Jersey Imam: Palestinian cause is ‘Islamic,’ but must be marketed as ‘humanitarian’

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) held a “Workshop for Palestine” on Nov. 17 at the Islamic Center of Union County, N.J.

Muhammad Habba, a New Jersey-based AMP activist (see MEMRI TV clip 6483), said that he believes Israel will cease to exist in the next 50 years, and praised members of the Democratic Party for supporting boycotts and sanctions against Israel.

Waseem Qana’a, another AMP activist, said that AMP’s focus is cutting U.S. funding for Israeli state-sponsored terrorism. During the Q&A session, one of the audience members said that peaceful measures are not enough and that the “military option” should not be taken off the table, and Qana’a answered that BDS is the biggest threat to Zionist supremacy.

A statement by another audience member that the Palestinian cause is “100 percent Islamic and 0 percent humanitarian” developed into a debate. ICUCNJ’s imam Sa’id Elkasaby said that even though he agreed that the Palestinian cause is an Islamic cause, it must be marketed to the West as humanitarian so that Jews, Christians, and others will support it as well. An unedited video of the presentation was uploaded to the Islamic Center’s (ICUCNJ) YouTube channel on Nov. 17, and it was taken down soon after being uploaded.

Liberal Jews are still turning a blind eye to anti-Semitism on the left

Jew-hating has become too normal in America, and liberal Jewry often keeps mum about it. Left-of-center Jews speak out about white nationalists, but where are they on anti-Semitism when it arises from their own side?

Last week, Airbnb announced its decision to remove rental listings in the West Bank. But the apartment-sharing service didn’t touch listings in other disputed territories, like Russian-annexed Ukraine and Turkish-occupied North Cyprus. You would think liberal Jewish outfits would race to call out what lies behind this hypocrisy: anti-Semitism.

You’d think wrong. Anti-Defamation League boss Jonathan Greenblatt, for example, issued a tepid statement saying he was “dismayed” by the move. But he stopped short of calling out the blatant antiSemitism.

This fits a pattern with the former Obama administration official. As Seth Mandel wrote in Commentary recently, Greenblatt “sees right-wing bigotry as a crucial element of conservative ideology,” while viewing the left-wing varieties as “isolated anomalies.”

Under his leadership, the ADL opposed, on the flimsiest grounds, Mike Pompeo’s nomination as secretary of state. The ADL also joined the left’s crusade against Brett Kavanaugh, and it has repeatedly clashed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

But the Greenblatt ADL has been far more reluctant to condemn Democratic firebrand Keith Ellison’s long record of Israel-bashing. Indeed, Greenblatt embraced Ellison in 2016, when the Minnesota congressman ran for deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Greenblatt only reversed course when “a tape surfaced of Ellison accusing Israel of controlling American foreign policy,” as Mandel noted.

But other liberal Jews go even further, by defending the haters.

Consider Peter Beinart, the one-time New Republic editor. “No, BDS Is Not Anti-Semitic, And Neither Is Ilhan Omar” was the headline for a piece he wrote in the Jewish Daily Forward recently.

BDS, of course, is short for boycott, divest, sanction—a movement that singles out the Jewish state for such punishment. This, despite the horrors that are routine around the world, from China to Venezuela.

Beinart writes that the “BDS movement doesn’t officially oppose the existence of a Jewish state, but some of its most prominent advocates do.” So leaders of the movement want to destroy Israel, but the movement isn’t tainted by them? Where else would this be an acceptable line of argument? If white nationalists marched for gay rights, which liberal would disregard their outsize hate and focus on the one point of agreement? It’s laughable.

As for Ilhan Omar, she’s the newly elected Minnesota congresswoman who in January will take Ellison’s seat in the House of Representatives. In 2012, she tweeted: “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.”

The notion that Jews have the world under a spell is as classic an anti-Semitic trope as one can find, yet somehow Omar finds a Jewish defender in a Jewish publication.

Then there’s Linda Sarsour. Last week the Women’s March leader called out “folks who masquerade as progressives but always choose their allegiance to Israel over their commitment to democracy.” This was another old Jew-hating trope: namely, that Jews secretly harbor dual loyalty to Israel. And this is just the latest in a long litany of anti-Semitic comments she’s made.

What’s even more odious is that the Sarsours of the country are called on to help heal the hatred they sow. Last year, Sarsour sat on a panel at the New School about fighting anti-Semitism. And just last week Al Sharpton, who has a history of saying heinous things about Jews in the 1990s, was on MSNBC to discuss — you guessed it — fighting anti-Semitism.

It’s like a bad joke. The guy who has referred to Jews as “interlopers” and “diamond merchants” is now the one claiming to fight Jew-hatred. Has he ever apologized? Jews forgive public figures like Ellison, Omar, Sarsour and Sharpton. But they would never encourage other targeted groups to do the same.

Fighting the normalization of anti-Semitism has to begin with Jews themselves speaking out. Now would be a good time to start.

NGO Reports Widespread Torture in ‘Open-Air Concentration Camp’ Venezuela

The research center CASLA Institute debuted a new report on the systematic use of torture in Venezuela at the Organization of American States (OAS) on Wednesday, documenting over 100 cases of the state torturing political dissidents in 2018 alone.

The report is the latest in a string of similar studies spanning the entirety of the Maduro regime finding that the socialist regime of dictator Nicolás Maduro uses beatings, rape, psychological torture, and electrocution on individuals arrested for failure to support the regime. Among the most prominent changes in the use of torture documented by CASLA this year is the increased use of torture against members of the military, suggesting growing discontent within the army ranks towards Maduro.

Victims of torture interviewed for the study also increasingly noted that, while they could not identify their torturers and the men did not use their real names around the victims, many possessed a distinct Cuban accent, easily distinguishable from Venezuelan Spanish. The Cuban communist regime has long supported its Venezuelan ally, and some reports suggest that as many as nearly 100,000 Cuban regime agents are actively working to keep Maduro in power in Venezuela.

Oshawa GM closure dwarfed by Alberta layoffs

You could almost hear Albertans’ eyes roll in unison this week, as Unifor president Jerry Dias exited a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, stood before the national press gallery and described the auto-manufacturing sector as the “most important industry in the country.”

The sense out west was: Of course an Ontarian would say that.

It’s understandable how Albertans could be aggrieved by the national urgency expressed at the potential loss of 2,500 General Motors jobs in Oshawa while its oil industry shed that many jobs every month, for 18 straight months, during the height of the downturn.

The comparison wasn’t lost on Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, who said in a speech Wednesday that the “the federal government should be at the table” when it comes to Alberta’s economic woes.

The word on the street in Calgary was a little more blunt.

“Sorry, Oshawa losing 2,500 jobs,” read a bright yellow sign held high at a downtown protest. “Alberta lost 110,000!!”

Lawsuit: University of Minnesota Advisor Lectured About ‘Cultural Differences’ After Student Reported Being Raped in Cuba

319222

Melisa Riviere

The University of Minnesota agreed to pay a large sum to a former student who claims that after she was raped in Cuba, an academic advisor blamed her for being culturally insensitive.

Natalie Carlson sued the university claiming that the rape happened while she studied abroad in 2014 and that was mistreated afterwards by the university chaperone and anthropology lecturer Melisa Riviere. The University of Minnesota settled for $137,500 last year, a settlement that came to light after a Freedom of Information Act request from The St. Paul Pioneer Press. (Standard media practice is to avoid naming rape victims, but Carlson agreed to be named publicly in the Pioneer Press report.)

Carlson, a political science major with a Spanish minor, planned to research homelessness in Puerto Rico and government housing in Cuba for her senior thesis. As part of that work, she was interviewing locals about their living situations during the study-abroad trip.

According to the lawsuit, the study-abroad program hired a man named Marcel Benet to work as an interpreter for the students in Cuba. He and Carlson walked through several neighborhoods before arriving at Benet’s house, ostensibly to interview Benet himself. There, he allegedly trapped her in his bedroom and raped her multiple times.

Carlson’s roommate found her crying afterwards in their hotel room, and informed Riviere. But the lawsuit claims that rather than being supportive, Riviere blamed the victim.

“The next day, Riviere told Carlson she should have known better than to go with Benet, the complaint states. Riviere said Carlson should have been more aware of cultural differences and that at least the interpreter ‘was a gentleman and walked (her) home after,'” the Pioneer Press reports.

When reporting the crime to the Cuban authorities, Carlson was made to share a cab with her alleged rapist. She declined to press charges after being informed that she would have to stay in the country for the duration of legal process. Carlson also filed a complaint against Riviere back in the United States, but the University of Minnesota decided not to punish her and she remained an advisor on Carlson’s research project.

White liberals ‘patronize’ minorities: study

White liberals present themselves as less competent when addressing minorities, while conservatives use the same vocabulary no matter what the race of their audience, according to a newly released study.

Yale and Princeton researchers found that both white Democratic presidential candidates and self-identified liberals played down their competence when speaking to minorities, using fewer words that conveyed accomplishment and more words that expressed warmth.

On the other hand, there were no significant differences in how white conservatives, including Republican presidential candidates, spoke to white versus minority audiences.

“White liberals self-present less competence to minorities than to other Whites—that is, they patronize minorities stereotyped as lower status and less competent,” according to the study’s abstract.

Mumbai attacks anniversary draws solemn tributes and new pressure on Pakistan

India on Monday marked the tenth anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks with ceremonies at sites across the city that became battlegrounds in the wave of violence that killed scores and dealt a critical blow to relations with neighboring Pakistan.

Armed with AK-47 assault rifles and hand grenades, ten Islamic militants killed 166 people and injured hundreds more in a three-day rampage through India’s financial capital which started on Wednesday November 26, 2008.

Ten years on, the United States has offered a new $5 million reward for the capture of the remaining attackers and called on Islamabad to cooperate with the hunt for the planners of the assault.

The attackers belonged to Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

How Scientology And The Nation Of Islam Formed A Bizarre And Dangerous Alliance

The relationship between Scientology and NOI goes back nearly two decades. Farrakhan was introduced to Scientology in the late ’90s. Scientology leader David Miscavige expressed interest in attracting black people, and by 2006, Scientologists honored Farrakhan at the Ebony Awakening Awards.

In 2010, Scientology held a summit near the NOI’s headquarters, according to the NOI’s official publication, “The Final Call.” This was around the same time Farrakhan began having NOI members take courses in Dianetics.

One of Scientology’s most important practices is “Auditing.” A Scientology audit is a therapy session in which an auditor listens to a patient and helps him to eliminate negative emotions and obtain higher levels of consciousness. Some say the auditing sessions are monitored and that the information obtained through these sessions can be used for blackmail.

By 2013, the NOI boasted: “The Nation of Islam has 1,055 Certified Auditors. Among those are 526 auditors who have received their Gold Seal permanent certification, demonstrating consistent proficiency and results.” They also claim “8,500 members of the Nation of Islam have participated in Dianetics seminars.” Farrakhan reportedly personally receives a commission for recruiting NOI members to become Certified Dianetics Auditors.

Secret police study finds crime networks could have laundered over $1B through Vancouver homes in 2016

The stately $17-million mansion owned by a suspected fentanyl importer is at the end of a gated driveway on one of the priciest streets in Shaughnessy, Vancouver’s most exclusive neighbourhood.

A block away is a $22-million gabled manor that police have linked to a high-stakes gambler and property developer with suspected ties to the Chinese police services.

Both mansions appear on a list of more than $1-billion worth of Vancouver-area property transactions in 2016 that a confidential police intelligence study has linked to Chinese organized crime.

The study of more than 1,200 luxury real estate purchases in B.C.’s Lower Mainland in 2016 found that more than 10 per cent were tied to buyers with criminal records. And 95 per cent of those transactions were believed by police intelligence to be linked to Chinese crime networks.

Duchess Meghan Markle Supports London Mosque That Spawned 19 Terrorists

A community kitchen supported by the Duchess of Sussex is housed inside a mosque linked by experts to individuals connected to “terrorist acts” and run by an imam who says girls who listen to music risk becoming strippers.
Meghan visited the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre on Wednesday after championing a cookbook to raise funds for the “Hubb Community Kitchen” project there to help victims of the fire at nearby Grenfell Tower.

In February it emerged the 37-year-old royal had made secret visits to the mosque in Westbourne Grove, which has also hosted Princes William and Harry, Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn in recent months.

An investigation by the Henry Jackson Society (HJS), the anti-extremism think tank, has linked the mosque, opened by Prince Charles in 2001, to 19 jihadists, including Islamic State executioner Mohammed Emwazi, also known as Jihadi John.

Research by the HJS suggests the mosque was once attended by three of the four “Beatles”, the Isil terror cell charged with guarding, torturing and killing hostages in Syria and Iraq. As well as Emwazi, Choukri Ellekhlifi, Alexanda Kotey and Aine Davis, all from west London, also have links with Al Manaar.
