Former Harvey Weinstein Attorney Lisa Bloom, Angling for a Hefty Payday, Now Faces Fraud Allegations

171110_view_lisa_bloom00_16x9_992Celebrity victims’ rights lawyer and avowed feminist Lisa Bloom, whose reputation as a champion of women was ravaged by reports of her secret 2016 memo to Harvey Weinstein hyping her ability to trash actress Rose McGowan and other accusers of the disgraced movie mogul and convicted rapist, is once again in hot water.

In her attempts to seize a sizable portion of millions of dollars in settlement money awarded to two severely disabled autistic children by two different California school districts, Bloom is facing allegations of fraud and forgery, among other complaints by the children’s Oakland-based attorney, Micha Star Liberty.

Liberty argues that Bloom violated financial and other terms of a joint venture agreement with Liberty’s law firm and abandoned the agreement in late March, after seven months, without seeking court permission, notifying the clients, or obtaining their explicit written agreement for fee-sharing as required by law—while allegedly fabricating a fake letter with invalid signatures—and thus is not entitled to any money.

The families of Liberty’s clients, meanwhile, have filed formal ethics complaints against Bloom and three Bloom Firm colleagues with the State Bar of California.

Rose McGowan, who is suing Bloom, Weinstein, and Weinstein attorney David Boies for alleged racketeering and illegal wiretapping, among other complaints, told The Daily Beast in a text message: “Lisa Bloom needs to be disbarred and fall off the planet…It’s hard to comprehend that level of evil.”

Samoan chief in New Zealand sentenced to 11 years in jail for slavery but experts say he is just the tip of the iceberg

200727014253-joseph-matamata-slave-new-zealand-exlarge-169They thought they were going to New Zealand to make better lives for their families.

They were told they would leave Samoa — a small island nation in the South Pacific — for their larger neighbor, a country with about 25 times the population. Once there, they would work and send the money back home to their loved ones.

Instead, when they arrived in New Zealand, the 13 victims — who cannot be named due to a court suppression order — were confronted with an entirely different situation, legal records show.

Their passports were taken from them. They were kept on a property surrounded by a high wire fence and could only leave or communicate with their family with permission. If they broke the rules, they were assaulted, sometimes so badly that it resulted in scars. When one teenage victim escaped, she was brought back in a car with her hands and wrists tied, Radio New Zealand reported.

Most worked long hours picking fruits from orchards, but they didn’t receive the money they had earned. Instead, it was given to the man who had either directly or indirectly lured them to New Zealand: a Samoan chief named Joseph Auga Matamata.

Kenyan man wanted in the US for poaching arrested at airport

Abubakar-Mansur-Mohamed-Surur-640x400Kenyan authorities said Wednesday they have arrested a man wanted in the U.S. for allegedly conspiring to sell 10 tons of elephant ivory and more than 400 pounds of rhinoceros horn over a seven-year period.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation said on its Twitter account that officers had arrested Abubakar Mansur Mohammed Surur, a Kenyan national who had been flagged as a “wanted person” in the United States for ivory-related offenses.

He was on on charter flight from Yemen which landed in Kenya’s second largest city early Tuesday, authorities said.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has said that Surur was part of a transnational criminal enterprise known as the “Enterprise” based in Uganda and surrounding countries.

Authorities believe Surur and several others conspired to distribute, sell, and smuggle at least approximately sell 10 tons of elephant ivory and 418 pounds of rhinoceros horn between 2012 and 2019.

The haul amassed over the seven-year period is believed to have involved the illegal poaching of more than 35 rhinoceros and more than 100 elephants.

U.S. authorities have said that one co-defendant, a Liberian man, already has been extradited to the United States after being arrested in Uganda last year. A Guinean man remains in custody in Senegal where authorities are considering an extradition request. A fourth defendant, who is also Kenyan, remains a fugitive.

Africa had 1.3 million elephants in the 1970s, but has only 500,000 today due to poaching and trophy hunting. Less than 30,000 rhinos are estimated to remain in the wild.

The price of rhino horn skyrocketed as demand grew in Asian countries, mainly China and Vietnam, where the horns are ground up and used in traditional Chinese medicine as a supposed cure for a variety of ailments. Syndicates from Vietnam, China, South Korea and Thailand have been identified as being involved in the trafficking.

ESPN investigation finds coaches at NBA China academies complained of player abuse, lack of schooling

LONG BEFORE AN October tweet in support of Hong Kong protesters spotlighted the NBA’s complicated relationship with China, the league faced complaints from its own employees over human rights concerns inside an NBA youth-development program in that country, an ESPN investigation has found.

American coaches at three NBA training academies in China told league officials their Chinese partners were physically abusing young players and failing to provide schooling, even though commissioner Adam Silver had said that education would be central to the program, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the complaints.

The NBA ran into myriad problems by opening one of the academies in Xinjiang, a police state in western China where more than a million Uighur Muslims are now held in barbed-wire camps. American coaches were frequently harassed and surveilled in Xinjiang, the sources said. One American coach was detained three times without cause; he and others were unable to obtain housing because of their status as foreigners.

A former league employee compared the atmosphere when he worked in Xinjiang to “World War II Germany.”

Social justice advocates believe school shooter should be set free because of trans identity

22gjpuug1zh41

Maya McKinney

Social justice crusaders on social media advocate to #AbolishPrisons for the release of transgender school shooter Maya “Alec” McKinney who was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole on Friday, according to CBS Denver.

McKinney is one of the two Colorado students charged in the 2019 STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting. He was a juvenile at the time that he killed one student and injured eight others. McKinney was born female but identifies as a male.

Leftist progressives claim that “oppressive society” and “a world designed to kill us” had driven McKinney to violence. They claim that he doesn’t deserve to be punished for his crimes because it wasn’t his fault that he committed the act.

Instead, they advocate for the mass shooter to be enabled to “thrive as a trans person,” and that the courts should disregard the first-degree murder and 16 other counts to which he plead guilty.

“F*** Transphobia. That’s the real story here,” one outraged leftist wrote. “Alec McKinney deserves to be free, just like every human being,”

Nick Sandmann’s Lawyer Issues Fiery Statement Of Intent To Get CNN’s Brian Stelter Fired For ‘Breach Of Confidentiality’

Covington Catholic student Nicholas Sandmann’s lawyer accused CNN’s Brian Stelter of breaching a confidentiality agreement Friday after the host retweeted speculation on the settlement.

Sandmann settled a defamation lawsuit with the Washington Post in July after he was misrepresented by media publications over an incident at the Lincoln Memorial in 2019. Previously, CNN paid a multimillion dollar settlement to Sandmann as well.

Stelter retweeted a comment from attorney Mark S. Zaid commenting on Sandmann’s defamation case Thursday. Zaid said that the student “was undoubtedly paid nuisance value settlement & nothing more.”

Sandmann’s lawyer Lin Wood responded publicly to the retweet on Friday, accusing Stelter of violating a confidentiality agreement by retweeting Zaid’s comment.

“This retweet by @brianstelter may have cost him his job at @CNN,” Wood wrote. “It is called breach of confidentiality agreement. Brian Stelter is a liar. I know how to deal with liars.”

Hate-Hoaxer Jussie Smollett Attends BLM Protest Outside Trump Tower

Chicago is now suing Smollett for the $130,000 it spent investigating his hoax.

Worse still, at least for Smollett, a special prosecutor reinstated the charges. He’s currently under indictment for six counts pertaining to four false police reports.

Smollett is fighting the suit and charges, and we can only hope his legal fees have already exceeded the $130,000 fine. He was also fired from Empire.

Saturday’s Black Lives Matter appearance is interesting due to the fact Smollett is using the recent explosion of violence committed by the left-wing terrorists in Black Lives Matter to squirm out of his legal troubles.

8 Israeli inventions for greener farming

The coronavirus crisis proved that no country should depend on imports for food security, says Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP) Partner Michal Drayman.

“God forbid if we don’t have the internal ability to produce our own fresh produce,” she tells ISRAEL21c.

Yet Covid isn’t the only crisis affecting food security. Water is scarce due to climate change and wasteful farming practices. Pests, weeds and crop diseases are building resistance to the toxic chemicals used to control them.

Neither farmers nor consumers want their fruits and veggies coated with chemical residues, but there aren’t enough safe and effective alternatives.

All these factors are pushing forward a range of cost-effective eco-friendly solutions from Israel, a world leader in agricultural technology.

The Islamist Takeover of George Floyd

From the moment that video of Floyd’s death went viral, Palestinian activists throughout the U.S. and abroad tried to turn the subsequent protests against police brutality into an American Intifada and Floyd himself into a shaheed (martyr). Some “protesters” in American cities have displayed Palestinian flags, worn Palestinian keffiyehs and even adopted Palestinian tactics, like the Molotov cocktail-throwing Palestinian activist lawyer Urooj Rahman. Likewise, Floyd’s image has been photographed throughout Palestinian territories, and his name has become a regular component of anti-Israel protests.

Trump wants education funds to go to parents if schools don’t reopen

“If schools do not reopen, the funding should go to parents to send their child to public, private, charter, religious or homeschool of their choice—the key word being choice. If the school is closed the money should follow the student so the parents and families are in control of their own decision. So we’d like the money to go to the parents of the student, this way they can make the decision that’s best for them”

Seattle Police Chief Sends Simple Message To Businesses During Riots: You’re On Your Own

Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best told local businesses Friday that due to new city council regulations, the police force won’t intervene in the event of more riots.

“Please also know that the City Council Ordinance 119805 Crowd Control Tool goes into effect this weekend on Sunday, July 26, 2020. This ordinance bans Seattle Police officers the use of less lethal tools, including pepper spray that is commonly used to disperse crowds that have turned violent,” a letter addressed to businesses and residents in the city stated.

Best argued that this has resulted in her police officers having “NO ability to safely intercede to preserve property in the midst of a large, violent crowd.”

Charity “Gospel for Asia” files for creditor protection after $170M lawsuit

This isn’t the first time the charity has faced accusations or found itself tied up with litigation. The charity ignited controversy in evangelical circles in the United States, where it faced a class action with similar allegations. It eventually settled last year for $37 million.

During those proceedings, lawyers representing Gospel for Asia confirmed that $20 million was taken from Canadian donations to help pay for a sprawling $45-million campus in Texas, which includes a 100,000-square-foot administration building and 80 homes for staff. Initially, financial statements stated the money came from an anonymous donation.
