CNBC reports, “The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating SpaceX over whether the company discriminates against non-U.S. citizens in its hiring practices and said Elon Musk’s company is stonewalling a subpoena for information, court documents revealed Thursday.”

Short-selling guru Citron says won’t publish research again
Short-seller Andrew Left, whose company Citron was one of the hedge funds to spark this week’s battle with small-time traders over GameStop Corp, said in a YouTube video on Friday that his company would no longer publish short-selling research.
The latest twist in a saga that has sent shock waves through Wall Street as amateur investors pile into heavily-shorted stocks like GameStop and AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc, the move is a major change of course for one of world’s best known short-sellers.
Left, the author of dozens of investigative reports on S&P 500 over the past decade, is credited as helping pioneer the tactic of betting against a stock by publishing research that encouraged others to follow his lead and profiting when they do.

OPP investigating ex-civil servant accused of defrauding government $11M in COVID-19 relief funds
Ontario Provincial Police say they are probing the case of a former senior IT employee, who allegedly created hundreds of accounts to funnel at least $11 million of Ontario COVID-19 relief money into them.
Criminal charges have not been laid, however, documents in a civil claim from the Ontario government were filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice just before Christmas claiming Sanjay Madan, a former computer manager at the Ministry of Education, his family members and associates fraudulently obtained the money intended to support Ontario parents and children during school closures.

Philadelphia Tasks ‘College Kids’ With Distributing COVID Vaccines, Brings Disastrous Results
Philadelphia is home to some of the most venerated medical institutions in the country. Yet when it came time to set up the city’s first and largest coronavirus mass vaccination site, officials turned to the start-up Philly Fighting COVID, a self-described “group of college kids” with minimal health-care experience.
Chaos ensued.
Seniors were left in tears after finding that appointments they’d made through a bungled sign-up form wouldn’t be honored. The group switched to a for-profit model without publicizing the change and added a privacy policy that would allow it to sell users’ personal data. One volunteer alleged that the 22-year-old CEO had pocketed vaccine doses. Another described a “free-for-all” where unsupervised 18- and 19-year-olds vaccinated one another and posed for photos.

HBO Plans To Release Documentary Critical Of China’s Handling Of The Virus
What might have happened if China had quickly reacted to the coronavirus and warned the world what was happening instead of spending several critical weeks covering it up? It’s impossible to know for certain but it seems probable the entire would could have been at least a little better off and maybe a lot better off.
That’s the theme of a new documentary financed by HBO called “In The Same Breath.” The film was made by director Nanfu Wang and focuses on the early weeks when we were all just hearing about the virus for the first time:

Cuomo callously addresses COVID nursing home report: ‘Who cares!’
“Who cares [if they] died in the hospital, died in a nursing home? They died.”
That’s how Gov. Cuomo callously responded Friday to the damning state attorney general’s report that revealed his administration downplayed the total number of nursing home residents killed by COVID-19.
During his first remarks on the spiraling controversy, Cuomo said, “If you look at New York state, we have a lower percentage of deaths in nursing homes than other states.”
“A third of all deaths in this nation are from nursing homes,” he said.
“New York state, we’re only about 28 percent — only — but we’re below the national average in number of deaths in nursing homes.”
“But who cares — 33 [percent], 29 [percent] — died in the hospital, died in a nursing home? They died.”

Why The First Amendment Needs To Be Applied To Social Media
Since democracy was created, it has required a public forum, from the Acropolis to the town square on down. That place exists today, for better or worse, across global media. It is the seriousness of the threat to free speech that requires us to move beyond platitudes like “it’s not a violation of free speech, just a breach of the terms of service!” People once said “I’d like to help you vote ladies, but the Constitution specifically refers to men.” That’s the side of history some are standing on.

White House dodges question about Yellen’s fees
New Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen made a lot of money — $7.2 million, precisely — over the last two years by making speeches at events held by banks and other financial institutions. That is bound to create a conflict of interest — or, as official Washington likes to say, the appearance of a conflict of interest — when Yellen, as Treasury Secretary, deals with all those companies that have written her big checks.

John Kerry: Energy Workers Fired Due To Biden Should Learn To Make Solar Panels
After a press briefing on Wednesday, a reporter asked John Kerry how he and Biden would respond to the people who would lose their jobs in coal and oil due to Biden’s new climate policies.
Kerry explained that these workers can find employment in alternative forms of energy, such as solar panels’ production. How utterly insulting.

Tufts U Student Government Resolution Blaming Israel For U.S. Police Violence
The Tufts University chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) has proven itself to be one of the strongest advocates of “Deadly Exchange,” a false campaign started by anti-Zionist Jewish Voice for Peace, claiming that Israel and American Jewish groups are responsible for alleged unlawful police violence in the U.S. against minority communities. Tufts SJP reframed this campaign by claiming Israel directly threatens the “safety” of students by “militarizing” and training American campus police to be racist.
