First Nations leaders endorse Liberal candidate while at an NDP event
Two First Nations leaders from Manitoba endorsed a Liberal candidate running in the province’s north while standing next to NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh at a campaign event.
Singh and two NDP candidates seeking re-election met with Manitoba First Nations leaders in Winnipeg last week to discuss some of the pressing issues facing Indigenous communities like housing and mental health.
While the chiefs said they were thankful Singh and his team organized this tête-à-tête during a busy election campaign — they said they would be backing Liberal candidate Shirley Robinson over NDP incumbent Niki Ashton in the Churchill–Keewatinook Aski race because they want more Indigenous voices in Canada’s Parliament.

VIDEO: Hey, Americans get stranded in countries all the time
Is this the new line from the Biden administration — that Americans somehow got themselves stranded in Afghanistan? At least John Kirby acknowledged that they’re stranded at all. A week ago, Jen Psaki scolded the press for using the term in relation to Americans in Afghanistan that couldn’t make their way into the airport in Kabul.
Americans might “get stranded in countries” from time to time on their own volition, but … is that the case in Afghanistan? Not at all:

Lebanon sentences four people to prison for ties with Jews or Israel
A prominent physician in Australia, Jamal Rifi from Lebanon, was sentenced in absentia to ten years in prison in Lebanon for the crime of “normalization with Israel,” VOA and Albawaba reported on Wednesday.
Dr. Rifi works with Sydney’s Jewish Community on a charity program that organizes treatment for Palestinians in Israeli hospitals. The program trains Palestinian medical workers and helps transfer sick children from Gaza and other Palestinian areas to Israeli hospitals. They have also helped during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing ventilators to the Palestinian health system.
Dr. Rifi’s brother, Ashraf, is a former justice minister in Lebanon and informed him of the sentencing because of his association with the Jewish organizations in his charity work.
“The Lebanese military tribunal sentenced me to ten years’ imprisonment for being a collaborator and a traitor with the enemy,” said Dr. Ashraf to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. “Nobody wants to be labelled as a traitor, and I am really upset, and it is a distraction from the work that I am doing right now.”
He added that the sentencing was a reflection on the corruption of the Lebanese system.

Alarming That There’s No Accountability for Military Leaders
President Biden made the decision to follow through with President Trump’s decision to end the war in Afghanistan. And those were proper decisions. He ultimately is responsible for the manner in which the departure is taking place. It is also true that these plans needed to be developed properly by the military brass. And it is objectively and demonstrably true they failed in that regard. There needs to be accountability.

A Tale of Two Retreats, and One Corrupt Media
When Joe Biden ordered the retreat from Afghanistan, the media seized on the apt comparison with the fall of Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War. But let’s not give the talking heads too much credit. It was backwards-looking Biden himself who provided reporters with their first clue that something might be up. On July 8, the president had said he saw no parallels between the Afghanistan “withdrawal” and “what happened in Vietnam”:
“The Taliban is not the South — the North Vietnamese army. They’re not — they’re not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There’s going to be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of a embassy in the — of the United States from Afghanistan. It is not at all comparable.”
Even for a sympathetic media, that rambling assessment was too much to ignore. By the time the Taliban entered Kabul, it was obvious that the U.S. “withdrawal” was a surrender — a retreat at best — and that the commander-in-chief had gravely miscalculated. Video showed would-be Afghan refugees chasing after cargo planes and even, tragically, falling to their deaths from their precarious perch on the outside of those planes. The parallel with the panic at the U.S. Embassy in Saigon in 1975 was plain to see.
In statement after statement, it became compellingly clear that Biden was out of touch with reality. At that same July 8 press conference, he declared, “I trust the capacity of the Afghan military, who is better trained, better equipped, and more re- — more competent in terms of conducting war” than the Taliban. Yes, that Afghan military — the one that barely fired a shot in defense of the nation and turned over billions of dollars of deadly war machinery to the new terrorist state.
Once again, Biden has lived up to his reputation for being “wrong on nearly every foreign policy and national security issue over the last four decades,” as described by former Obama Defense Secretary Robert Gates. So if you want to criticize the president for being disastrously wrong, I suppose that is justified. But he is not the only one at fault. We can appropriately spread the blame among the CIA, the State Department, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the secretary of defense and the national security adviser, who presumably were all sharing bad intel and bad advice with Biden.
But even more guilty, in my opinion, are the potted plants who make up most of the White House press corps. By the time of Thursday’s suicide bombing that killed 13 U.S. service members, it was obvious even to Democrat apologists on CNN and MSNBC that something was terribly wrong. But where were they for the month preceding that? Think of that long wait between July 8 and the day in early August when the Taliban captured their first state capital. The media had every opportunity to expose the disaster about to happen and to hold the president responsible for his feckless leadership. But what did we get instead? Silence.

Our Afghan Nightmare:Tanks for Nothing
Joe Biden’s scripted or no-questions press conferences, and the clean-up afterward by Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, and Jen Psaki, have been some of the most misleading episodes in modern presidential history—mostly in what was not said rather than was exaggerated, warped, and misrepresented.
The more Joe Biden mutters “The buck stops here” or “I take full responsibility,” the more we know he will not—and not just because of his now reduced mental state, but because 1) he repeats the same opportunist messaging that he has for the last 50 years of his political career, and 2) the only true thing he could say was “I ordered a withdrawal in the most reckless manner in U.S. military history.”

Bombshell Lawsuit Has ‘GMA’ Co-Hosts at Each Other’s Throats, Sources Say
A bombshell lawsuit against the former top producer of Good Morning America has ignited a firestorm behind the scenes, with co-hosts George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts allegedly at each other’s throats over the handling of claims that their former boss sexually assaulted multiple women at the network, four people with knowledge of situation told The Daily Beast.
The fallout from the lawsuit has engulfed ABC News, with staffers furious about the company’s handling of the matter. As such, recently installed news president Kim Godwin, who came into the job promising to clean up the culture, is now in her fourth month in the position and already dealing with the significant challenge of quelling internal dissent over the situation, according to sources.
Last week, Kirstyn Crawford, a producer who works closely with Stephanopoulos on the top-rated morning show, filed a lawsuit against Michael Corn, the former senior executive producer of GMA, alleging he sexually assaulted her and cultivated a toxic work environment. Corn has vehemently denied the allegations, and ABC disputed the claims and vowed to fight them in court.
GMA staffers discussed the lawsuit on a team-wide call, during which a clearly emotional Roberts declared, “If this happened to someone on my team, I would have burned the place down,” according to multiple people who were present for the meeting.
Staffers who heard the remark said it was unsubtly directed at Stephanopoulos, who, according to the lawsuit, had been informed of Crawford’s sexual assault allegations almost four years ago and continued to work with Corn. ABC News employees who spoke with The Daily Beast asked to do so anonymously out of fear of retaliation.
The comment quickly made its way back to Stephanopoulos, who was “livid,” according to the people familiar. The GMA co-host and This Week moderator has been off the air in recent days, self-isolating after his daughter was diagnosed with COVID-19. His rep, Alan Berger of Creative Artists Agency, did not respond to a request for comment.
But ABC News staffers are questioning whether Stephanopoulos, a former political operative who gained notoriety as a Clinton White House aide and is now one of the most powerful people at ABC News, did enough to sound the alarm or intervene after he was informed of the allegations against Corn.

His Name Is Barbecue—and He’s Ready to Plunge Haiti Into War
Since the assassination of Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse on July 7, the small island nation has spiraled even further into chaos. From a devastating earthquake earlier this month, to violent gangs gaining ground, and rampant corruption within its elite, it is hard to see how the country will prosper. In fact, the current political elite’s inability to deal with and then fix any of these issues is a testimony to its unwillingness to care for its people, who are forced to fend for themselves.
In times of crisis, unlikely leaders often emerge. History is full of individuals who decide to take up arms and plunge into the unknown. In Haiti, this void will most likely see a rise of powerful gang bosses, including one of the country’s most notorious, Jimmy Cherizier, also known as Barbecue. The former police officer turned gang leader controls with his small army of armed young men the neighborhood of Delmas. For a few years now, Barbecue and his soldiers have consolidated their power base, amassing a large amount of assault rifles, hand guns, and cash—and the obedience of locals in and around his neighborhood.
“If tomorrow I run for the Senate, I can win because people love me here,” the gang boss said in an exclusive interview with The Daily Beast. “Yet I chose not to run for elections as it is useless… I will lead an armed struggle before I enter politics in a peaceful manner.”

Democrat President Joe Biden is reportedly offended that British politicians view him as “gaga” and “doolally” following his disastrous handling of the crisis in Afghanistan that erupted under his leadership.
“The Brits have their view. But they should be careful. What’s been said is offensive and he will remember it. He actually has a long memory,” a U.S. source claimed in a statement to The Telegraph.

US handed out blank copies of visas in Afghanistan
A former FBI special agent who tracked counterterrorism cases warned that terrorists in Afghanistan stand a high chance of being able to walk right onto U.S.-bound planes as a result of the Biden administration’s dissemination of blank visa papers throughout the country.
“The threat of having Islamic State or al Qaeda come into the country is not increased through the southwest border,” said Kenneth Gray, a senior lecturer in the Fire Science and Emergency Management Department at the University of New Haven in Connecticut.

Canada’s national humiliation in Afghanistan
Having done too little to prepare, despite several months’ advance notice of U.S. plans to depart and plenty of warnings of the situation that would ensue, Ottawa’s predicament once again highlights how little clout Canada wields at international tables after six years of Liberal rule. The Liberal timetable was dictated by Washington, and while President Joe Biden spoke personally to leaders from Britain, Germany, France and Italy before a virtual meeting of G7 leaders this week, Trudeau was not consulted. The prime minister hasn’t spoken to the president in three weeks and Canadian pleas to extend the Aug. 31 U.S. departure deadline were rejected.
Foreign Affairs Minister Marc Garneau, once a proud member of the military, conceded Canada’s departure will leave thousands of people to fend for themselves. It’s beyond question that many will suffer at the hands of their country’s harsh new masters. Justin Trudeau offers evasion and excuses in response, while he gets on with seeking a majority in an election called largely for personal vanity. He has brought shame on Canada, and a stain that may never be erased.

UN said to be poised to ax whistleblower for exposing Chinese/UN wrongdoing
A group representing over 30 whistleblower and anti-corruption groups around the world is urging the United Nations secretary-general to protect Emma Reilly, a U.N. human rights lawyer who risked her career by reporting undue Chinese influence at the U.N.
Reilly fears she will be fired for her efforts. She alerted her bosses at the U.N. Human Rights office that – at the request of China – her office handed over names of dissidents who were coming to the U.N. Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Switzerland, including some U.S. citizens.
Reilly said this resulted in pressure from Beijing on the dissidents not to make the trip. She said that included pressuring their families which in some cases resulted in arrests, torture and, in one case, a person was reported to have died in detention.

Increasing numbers of US students are already struggling to grasp the fundamentals. Worse, about 30 percent of students at the two lower grade levels and 40 percent of 12th-graders couldn’t even achieve the “basic” level.
